Gina Cochran, artist
How do people find out about your art?
I don’t have an open studio, but I do 8-10 outdoor festivals each year, including 2-3 local shows. Typically if someone sees a piece they are interested in either at a show or on my websites they will contact me by phone (205.305.5438) or via email gina-cochran@hotmail.com and I will meet them somewhere to deliver the piece.
How Does Your Art Help People?
Much of my work is either intended to be “happy” — to make people smile and feel good when they look at it or meditative and calming, to “escape” and to be taken in by the piece.
What do you do to influence customers to return to your art?
I’m not sure it’s anything I do, art either speaks to you or it doesn’t. I keep in touch with many of my clients, let them know where I’m showing etc, and I think they appreciate that.
What do you want to accomplish with your art — professionally and personally?
For me my work is extremely rewarding, I simply love doing what I do. Also, for the most part I have enough flexibility that I am able to be “mom” first and that is most important.
What is one thing about you that people don't know?
Hmm, I had 6 majors in undergrad, and none of them were art!
What led you to start selling your art?
It’s kind of a long story, but in a nutshell, I was unhappy in my previous job and every evening I came home from work and I would paint. And then one day my husband suggested I take a break from the mental health field and paint, and here we are almost 6 years later!
Do you have hobbies? How do you unwind?
Working, painting is relaxing and therapeutic for me! As for hobbies, reading and writing, both things I love to do when I can carve out the time.
